BOUXJIE BOSS BABE - Meet Edith Williams- Article 1

Updated: Jun 7

Bouxjie Boss Babe is a brand new monthly article to celebrate women who are bossing their game. As much as we encourage looking good there's NOTHING better than a woman who looks good AND is a BOSS... a Bouxjie Boss Babe.

Our very First BBB is Edith Williams. Edith started her career as a professional Makeup Artist and soon built a large social media following (20k+)

Edith is one of if not THE most sought after bridal MUA in the game. She also co-owns an online cosmetic brand and has recently expanded her portfolio by opening a beautiful, and contemporary beauty studio.

We caught up with Bouxjie Boss Babe Edith to ask her a few questions about her journey

How did you first become an MUA?

Edith"I was the biggest tomboy ever but for some reason, people would always comment on my make up. I applied for a job at Urban Decay-only because they were paying more than my job at the time! When I was offered the position I realised I was actually really good at doing makeup- probably because I was good at Art I told customers that I also freelance and when the first person booked me outside of work and paid me for it, I knew that this was going to be the start of a new era for me".

What made you decide to open a salon?

Edith "I've always been inspired to own my own shop; when I worked in retail I was in managerial positions also, I grew up watching my mum own a shop in Nigeria so always knew I would have my own one day".

Describe a typical working day

Edith "I'm always busy and no two days are the same, If I'm not driving area to area doing my freelance makeup bookings then I'll be at the studio working, training, recruiting or promoting the stylist on social media. I have to wear many hats and organise my days ahead, Its always full on but I wouldn't have it any other way".

What is the best part of your role?

Edith "Being my own boss, not having anyone to report to and working on my own terms- it's worth it".

What challenges do you face in your business?

Edith "Being both black and a woman is a challenge in itself, in business it is even harder! It's as though you're constantly having to prove yourself and fight against perceptions and assumptions that people often make from just looking at you. I feel I am always proving my worth and that I am a serious businesswoman, I have a few stories with a couple of estate agents but I won't go into that now".

What are your plans for the future?

Edith"To grow, grow and grow and expand, expand, expand. I plan to go worldwide with multiple branches"

How do you spend your free time?

Edith" I like to live my best life because I work too hard not to! I go partying and go on holidays a lot- life is too short so you have to live it as you go along otherwise you are living for someone else"

What advice would you give an up and coming MUA / salon owner?

Edith"Be consistent, never give up, remember that everyone's journey is different so don't be demotivated, speak things into existence, write your goals down and every day take action towards it"
